Distance: 3.72 miles|Time: 2 hours
Start: Castle Gatehouse Car Park, Castle Rd, Kenilworth CV8 1NF
Discover the Green Heart of our natural heritage on a circular walk through the remnants of the Forest of Arden highlighting the romantic story of Elizabeth 1 and Lord Robert Dudley plus the natural landscape, flora and wildlife.
The walk is about 3 miles long and takes roughly 2 hours, depending on how much wildlife spotting you do. It’s mainly easy paths which can be muddy, especially at the Pleasance, and there are kissing gates plus a stile or two on the way. Lace your walking boots, take a flask or picnic and head out to discover the layers of history and romantic intrigue for a memorable day.
Note: Castle Gatehouse Car Park is free but can be crowded. The Queen and Castle Car Park is pay per hour, or free if you choose to eat there first.
Take a short stroll northwards (not Castle Hill) past Castle Green then where the road turns, take a left down Purlieu Lane.
