We have done our best to ensure the Kenilworth Revealed App is a seamless and easy experience for everyone, however things can’t always be 100% perfect. Below we have added some useful FAQs and some trouble shooting tips to help out.

- How do I download the app?
Download the app on your Apple or Android device by searching ‘Kenilworth Revealed’ in the search bar of the App Store or Google Play store or through the website.
- Is the app free to download and use?
Yes, there are no in-app purchases.
- Does the app use lots of battery?
AR apps do use quite a lot of battery so make sure your device has full charge before you embark on your quest!
- Does the app take a long time to download?
The app will download quickly via WiFi or a 4 or 5G connection but, because of the range of content, the app is quite large. We recommend downloading the app before your visit to Abbey Fields via a WiFi connection if possible.
- Is the app family friendly?
Yes, the app content is family friendly. It’s easy to forget about the modern world when using the app so children should always be supervised by an adult to watch out for other people visiting Abbey Fields and to check for uneven ground.
- How do I know where to go?
Tap ‘Explore’ to open the app map. GPS-compatible devices will see a blue dot showing their location. Use the map to help you find the plaques embedded in the ground around the Abbey Fields and on 4 planters in the High Street.
- How do I activate the AR experiences?
When you are at a plaque it will appear green on your map. Tap the plaque pin and press continue to launch the virtual scene. Ensure your volume is on to hear the historical conversations.
- I don’t know where to start/what is a Quest?
Select the ‘Quests’ option on the menu for a themed trail. Visit each plaque in the Quest to unlock a special token. Once you have completed a Quest you will unlock a Quiz to test the knowledge you have collected.
- What are Relics and how do I complete my Relic Collection?
At each plaque you can discover a relic which will reveal a fact about the history of Abbey Fields. Watch the video, explore the scene, and your Relic will pop up.
You can view all of the Relics you have collected in your Collection. You need to visit every plaque to complete your Relic Collection. You can reset your Collection to start again.
- Where can I find out more about the history of Abbey Fields?
Discover more by browsing this website, we would especially recommend the Castle and Abbey Trail to discover more about Kenilworth’s other famous ruin and the Abbey’s links to it! If you have enjoyed the game aspect of Kenilworth Revealed you could also try and match your wits against our Mystery of the Abbey Trail!
App Troubleshooting
- The app isn’t working on my phone. What should I do?
If the app isn’t available for you to download on the App Store or Google Play, it’s likely that your device is not compatible with augmented reality apps. This is because some smartphones and tablets do not support ARKit (for iOS) or ARCore (for Android), which is required to run augmented reality apps. Unfortunately, not all smart devices support ARKit or ARCore – even if they’re new.

If your device is not compatible, try using an alternative device, or a friend or family member’s device with permission.
If your device is listed as compatible but you are still experiencing issues, please check you are running the latest version of Android or iOS software.
If the issue persists, please check you have enough storage space to download the app.
- I can’t access any of the AR experiences.
The app is designed to work on site at the Abbey Fields. To unlock the content you will need to physically travel to the location, and find the plaques located around the area.
When you are close to a plaque, the content will become available. Stand facing the plaque for the best experience.
- The virtual content doesn’t line up properly with the real world.
The app uses information from your device like your location, compass and camera to orientate the virtual views. Please ensure you have agreed to allow the app to access your Location Services and Camera in your device settings.
If the problem persists please check your system settings and ensure you have Compass Calibration and Motion Calibration & Distance activated.
- I cannot hear the audio.
Please ensure your device is on ‘loud/ring’ and that your volume is turned up. The text for the videos are available via the CC/closed captions button.
- The content is jumping or flickering.
For best user experience please use the app during the day in portrait orientation and ensure the camera is not obscured or covered.
