Seen across the Mere, Kenilworth Castle, encircled by water, was the essence of Medieval Romance, so make a wish! In Spring, looking right down by the stream, you’ll see a cider apple orchard full of blossom, and you’ll find yourself swept away in tranquillity, peace and fresh air. Perhaps the 11-year-old William Shakespeare walked the four-hour trek from with his farmer Uncle to see the festivities. Did he stand here and watch the giant wooden dolphins and mermaids of Lord Robert’s extravaganza on the night of 18th July 1575, followed by the fabulous, unimaginably exciting Italian firework displays?
Carry on along Purlieu Lane to the car park where you started but first, enjoy a welcome and romantic drink… you’ll be spoilt for choice along Castle Hill and the High St.
