4 March 2022 in tips & suggestions
Winter is finally drifting off, leaving us with the tantalising prospect of spring being just around the corner. Spring time in Kenilworth, is, as you would expect for somewhere so green, a truly wonderful time of year to be out and about. Here’s some top tips for getting the best out of the warmer weather and longer days!
Yes, we know we always mention Abbey Fields, but it really is one of our crown jewels! Easily accessible, a varied environment, peace, tranquillity and stuff to keep the kids entertained is hard to beat you know! But that variety also makes Abbey Fields amazing in spring, wildlife comes to life and blooms appear everywhere. A recent report identified around 670 species, and excitingly, 18 species were recorded with national conservation statuses, (4 never seen before in Warwickshire)! That makes the fields nationally important and ensures there is some incredible things to spot year round. You can read the whole report here, or why not take our Nature Trail (which includes species spotting guides!). Either way don’t miss enjoying our green heart this spring!
Speaking of trails, have you seen our new Mystery of the Abbey Trail? This one is packed with puzzles, codes, ciphers and general brain bending action as you discover the story fo the Abbey of St Mary. Its the perfect accompaniment for two to three hours in the spring time sunshine! Check it out at our trails pages (and see whether you can complete the puzzle in the Nave!).
Springtime also brings the start of the events calendar at Kenilworth Castle. Keep an eye on the What’s On page for all the latest as they are announced. You’ll already find plenty of Easter holiday events, including an action packed members week (EH member exclusive events) and a little bird tells us the Joust will be back later in the year!
Whilst getting off the beaten track in winter can be a mucky affair, spring time arriving means things might (finally!) dry out a bit. And that means oodles of fantastic pub walks! Grab a copy of Kenilworth & beyond Country Walks for routes out to Meer End, Hatton, Leek Wooton, Honiley, Lapworth and more!
Faerie Tale Farm is open for business with their Alpaca Experiences. Spend your spring time on a 2 hour wander with their furry friends (as well as a visit to the farm and meeting the babies). Its one of out top bucket list experiences!
OK so maybe not quite yet… but if you catch a sunny day its perfect for enjoying some fresh air whilst you tuck into Kenilworth’s legendary hospitality! Check out our food and drink directory to see what takes your fancy! Keep an eye out for live music and other events as well (there is plenty going on this Spring).
Come April and May, Crackley Wood will be carpeted in the bright vivid blue of bluebells. A top photo opportunity (and a lovely wander in the fresh air) not to be missed! Its even better if you take a wander out on the Greenway to get there.
This is just tantalising taster of how wonderful Kenilworth is as the weather improves. So why not come and discover what we have to offer this spring time in Kenilworth!
